Countries adopting  central bank digital currency

Central bank digital currency is a digital form of country's fiat currency (eg. Indian Rupee)

87 countries are now doing research on the impact of central bank digital currencies.

Out of those 87 countries, 9 countries have already launched their own CBDC.

The first country to adopt & launched its own CBDC is The Bahamas.

1) The Bahamas

Sand dollar is the name of The Bahama's central bank digital currency.

Another country is Nigeria. Nigeria has recently issued eNaira on October 2021

7 countries of Eastern Caribbean Union have also developed their own CBDC.

3) Eastern Caribbean Union

Another countries like India, Russia, Sweden, Brazil, UAE, Ukraine, and Canada are developing and pilot testing their digital currency.

Countries which are developing CBDC : 

India's central bank digital currency Digital Rupee is in the development phase & soon to be launched by RBI.

Canada’s digital currency Digital Loonie is also in under development.

Digital Ruble is Russia’s central bank digital currency which is currently in pilot testing stage.

Digital Renminbi is the central bank digital currency issued and regulated by the People’s Bank of China.

7) China

ekrona is the central bank digital currency developed by Sweden and currently it’s in pilot testing phase.
